Arapahoe County honors teens for serving as positive role models in the community

Arapahoe County Commissioners and local elected officials recently honored 32 teenagers who have overcome personal adversity during Arapahoe County’s Mayors and Commissioners Youth Award recognition ceremony.

The program recognizes youth, ages 13-19, who have overcome difficult situations in their lives by exhibiting strength and determination in the face of adversity. The program provides businesses, community and civic leaders the opportunity to nominate youth in the community who might not otherwise be recognized.

Nomination forms are distributed to Arapahoe County Junior High and High Schools each year. Commissioners Nancy Jackson, Susan Beckman, Nancy N. Sharpe, Rod Bockenfeld and Frank Weddig were joined by Town of Columbine Valley Mayor Gale Christy, City of Littleton Mayor Doug Clark and City of Englewood Mayor Jim Woodward to recognize and honor this inspirational group of young adults for their positive influence on themselves and those around them.

“It is inspiring to see how these kids have risen to the challenges life has presented them,” said Commissioner Nancy Jackson. “It is an honor for us to recognize these remarkable young men and women.”
